PILP 40: Celebrating 40 years of the Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project

PILP40 was a celebration of 40 years of advancing the rights of incarcerated people across Pennsylvania. At PILP40, guests heard from former and current clients about the myriad ways the organization’s work has impacted their lives. The event was hosted by Erin Coleman, NBC10 Anchor and an Emmy award-winning journalist.

Attendees also heard from our keynote speaker, Dwayne Betts, a formerly incarcerated man who was able to break free from the bonds of incarceration and graduate from Yale Law School, and he recently received the prestigious MacArthur award. Between his years of public defense work, advocacy, and Betts’s own experiences as a teenager in maximum-security prisons, his experience uniquely positions him to speak to the failures of the current criminal justice system and present encouraging ideas for change.
